Bosch error code E22: The drain filter is heavily clogged. Water is not passing through the filter fast enough for normal cycle operation.
The drain filter is heavily clogged. Water is not passing through the filter fast enough for normal cycle operation.
Twist the coarse mesh filter counter-clockwise and lift out. Separately remove the fine microfilter underneath. Rinse both under hot running water, scrubbing gently with a soft brush. Do this monthly to prevent E22.
Tools needed: Soft brush
Locate the drain hose at the back of the appliance. Make sure it is not kinked, clogged, or pushed too far into the standpipe. The hose end should be no more than 6 inches into the pipe.
On front-loaders, open the small access door at the bottom front. Place a towel and shallow pan underneath, unscrew the filter cap slowly, and let water drain. Remove any lint, coins, or debris from the filter cavity. Rinse the filter under running water.
Tools needed: Towel, Shallow pan
With the filter removed, shine a flashlight into the pump housing and rotate the impeller (small plastic propeller) by hand. It should spin freely. If it is jammed or broken, replace the drain pump assembly.
Tools needed: Flashlight
Pour a bucket of water directly into the standpipe. If it backs up quickly, the household drain is blocked — not the appliance. Clear the standpipe or call a plumber.
Tools needed: Bucket
Disconnect power. Remove the drain pump and test its motor terminals for continuity. No continuity means the pump motor is burned out and requires replacement.
Tools needed: Multimeter, Screwdriver set
Check for burned, loose, or corroded connectors between the pump and control board. Repair or replace any damaged wiring.
Tools needed: Screwdriver set
E22 is always a maintenance issue — no parts needed. Clean the filter and run a normal cycle.
