LG error code dH F: The freezer defrost temperature sensor is reading outside the expected range or is not detected. The automatic defrost system may not operate correctly.
The freezer defrost temperature sensor is reading outside the expected range or is not detected. The automatic defrost system may not operate correctly.
Unplug the unit. Remove all food to a cooler. Leave doors open for 24–48 hours until all ice has completely melted. This confirms whether the defrost system has failed or just needs a reset.
Tools needed: Towels, Cooler
With power disconnected, access the evaporator coils (remove freezer back panel). Disconnect the heater leads and test for continuity. A good heater reads 20–80 Ω. Open (infinite) means it is burned out.
Tools needed: Multimeter, Screwdriver set
The defrost thermostat clips onto the evaporator coils. Disconnect and test for continuity when cold (it should be closed / read 0 Ω). A thermostat that reads open at cold temperature is stuck and must be replaced.
Tools needed: Multimeter
On older refrigerators with a mechanical defrost timer, locate it (usually behind the kickplate or in the control panel) and manually advance it with a screwdriver until you hear a click. If the heater turns on, the timer was stuck. Replace the timer.
Tools needed: Flat-head screwdriver
Newer adaptive-defrost refrigerators use the main control board to schedule defrost cycles. If the heater and thermostat test good but the fridge still doesn't defrost automatically, the control board may need replacement.
